Judas Priest’s Rob Halford Picks His Deathbed Pop Song
Rob Halford told Houston Chronicle he’ll play a pop tune on his deathbed. The singer remarked, “What’s remarkable about people like Gaga or Taylor Swift is their longevity.” These are pop artists. Is that the proper term? No idea. Pop, as far as I can remember, has been practically unnecessary because there’s so much of it. Beautiful expression.”
Halford said, “It’s like firefly catching. Pop songs can be huge and never heard again. You’ll get a Madonna, Cher, Gaga, Chappell, or Taylor Swift, hopefully. They immortalize their music with their artistry. I will pound my head to ‘Paparazzi’ on my deathbed.”
It may be because I’m homosexual and enjoy creativity and the arts, but I absorb it. I reject barriers. I reject walls. I oppose censorship. I consider all music a feast. All of it affects me differently. I incorporate all of that into my work, he said.
Halford expressed his desire to work with Lady Gaga in interviews. The singer hailed her the best and claimed he’s been a fan since seeing her. He wants to sing her song ‘Born This Way’ because he supports LGBTQ+ people.
He remarked, “I would definitely do ‘Born This Way’ because that’s our anthem. I’d like to do Priest’s “Breaking the Law” with her because it talks about our discontent, especially as youth. A photo of Gaga wearing a Judas Priest jersey showed Halford that she liked them. Their friend DJ Lady Starlight invited him to a Gaga performance in 2014. He discovered Gaga loved Judas Priest at the show.
