James LoMenzo Believes That David Ellefson Is Responsible For Defining the Sound Of Megadeth

The latest interview that James LoMenzo gave to 518Scene.com revealed that David Ellefson was the one who influenced Megadeth’s sound. It was stated by the bassist that he is an originalist when it comes to rock and roll and metal bands. He expressed his appreciation for the band that was the first. I still have that little thing, that little fan guy thing, going with the real band, despite the fact that being a part of this is such a fantastic honor and because it is such a wonderful experience.

He went on to say, “However, our paths are very different from one another.” As much as everyone else who has been a part of this band, I believe that David Ellefson has been responsible for defining the sound of this band with his bass playing. And because of this, I make it a point to show a great deal of respect and reverence for him.

From 2006 until 2010, LoMenzo was a member of Megadeth, where he played bass and appeared on two albums for the band: “United Abominations” and “Endgame.” In 2021, he returned to the band, and in 2022, he became a permanent member. In 2023, he collaborated with Marty Friedman on musical performances during special shows.

In an interview with Ashdown Engineering that took place in November 2022, LoMenzo discussed his departure from Megadeth performance. It was reported by him that David Ellefson had returned to Megadeth after spending three or four years there. Additionally, I, along with you, was fairly happy about that, since I had always been a fan of Megadeth regardless of the circumstances. Because I am one of those crazy men who wants it to be the original band, I want it to be the original band.

Continuing, the musician stated, “I always want it to be the original band; it’s kind of the way I grew up.” In the absence of that, however, I was required to assume responsibility for the bass position when he was unable to be there. Consequently, I had no problem with it when he returned. I have released two excellent albums, titled “United Abominations” and “Endgame,” and my band has also embarked on two tours throughout the world and traveled extensively.

Consequently, at that moment in time, I was feeling a little bit excited to possibly try something new. So I made my way back to my house. There is a video production company that I created. When I first started doing these local jams, almost all of my celebrity friends would come over and join me in playing music. It was wonderful. And in the end, I found myself playing in the band of the legendary rock musician John Fogerty,” James explained. Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, and White Lion are some of the other bands that LoMenzo has collaborated with in addition to Megadeth and John Fogerty.
