The statement made by Mike Portnoy regarding his return to Dream Theater was, “This is where I need to be”
The return of Mike Portnoy to Dream Theater after a hiatus of thirteen years was discussed in a recent interview that was conducted by Consequence. Moreover, in all honesty, everything about it seems to be in order. “I have the impression that this is the place where I ought to be, where I need to be, and where I want to be,” spoke the drummer.
“But that very first night at the O2 Arena in London, I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like,” he said as he mused on his forthcoming debut gig with the band for the first time. Throughout the years, I have fantasized about what it would be like to perform onstage with those guys one again to the tune of one hundred times.
In addition, it is going to be so electrifying to experience the audience’s love, excitement, and interaction with one another. I am unable to wait. I simply cannot wait. And now we are becoming so close to each other. According to Portnoy, “It is going to be absolutely incredible.”
Through a post on Facebook, the artist recently discussed his thoughts over the rehearsals that Dream Theater is conducting for their future performances. “My view at the office,” he stated in his letter. It has been a pleasure to hear and feel how well rehearsals are going! Despite the passage of so many years, it is quite remarkable how quickly and easily we have returned to singing these songs together.(in the case of certain songs, it has been decades since they were collectively performed!)
In continuation, Mike stated, “I don’t want to seem overconfident, but I have to tell that it is already sounding and feeling so natural and comfortable… Almost as if no time has passed…just more than three weeks before the start of the season!!! Not able to wait…
The year 1985 marked the beginning of Dream Theater, which was founded by Portnoy, John Petrucci, and John Myung. In 2010, he left the band after having played on ten albums. During an interview with Mariskal Rock, Portnoy confirmed that he does not harbor any regrets regarding his departure from the band.
An observation made by the drummer was as follows: “As far as any regrets, I don’t have any regrets.” I don’t think I have any regrets about leaving Dream Theater in 2010, since I believe that if I had stayed there dissatisfied at the time, I might have spent the rest of my life feeling regretful that I did not take a chance.
Dream Theater will begin their tour of the United Kingdom and Europe on October 20 at The O2 Arena in London. The tour will last for one month. They are scheduled to do further gigs in Latin America beginning in December, and then they will embark on a tour of North America to celebrate their 40th anniversary beginning in February.
