Chappell Roan Calls Out Fans’ Exes at Primavera Sound — Including One With a Shocking Secret

Chappell Roan isn’t just delivering unforgettable pop performances — she’s also out here doing the emotional labor for her fans. During her headlining set at Primavera Sound on Saturday, June 7, the rising pop star turned her stage into a fiery confessional booth, giving her fans a moment of public catharsis. In between songs, Roan decided it was time to call out some truly terrible exes — and she didn’t hold back.

Midway through her Billboard Hot 100 hit “The Giver,” Roan paused the music to pull out a handful of slips from a hat — each one submitted by an audience member detailing the ex who, in their words, “didn’t get the job done.” With a mischievous glint in her eye and a mic in hand, she explained, “I asked some of you to give me the names of your exes, and why they didn’t get the job done.” What followed was a hilarious and brutally honest roast session that had the entire crowd both howling and booing in unison.

The entries got progressively worse, with each one revealing a little more than fans probably expected. The first note read, “He only knew how to use his fingers to play video games.” Cue the crowd: “Boo!” The next was even more cringe-worthy. “Didn’t wash his balls,” Roan read with an expression of pure horror. Another wave of boos erupted.

But the final slip of paper turned up the drama to another level. “Saved the worst for last,” Roan warned before reading: “Hooked up with my mom.” The collective groan that swept through the audience said it all — shock, disbelief, and a healthy dose of “Did that really happen?”

But just when it seemed like it couldn’t get any more outrageous, Roan revealed the kicker. “They are all in the crowd tonight,” she added with a devilish smile. The crowd erupted again, this time in stunned laughter and cheers as they processed that the ex and the mom were both somewhere in the audience.

With the crowd thoroughly entertained — and possibly traumatized — Roan returned to center stage to resume her performance. In perfect timing, she launched into the chorus of “The Giver,” belting out, “’Cause I get the job done!” It was a flawless moment of pop spectacle, blending humor, heartbreak, and empowerment in true Chappell Roan fashion.

Roan was one of the three main headliners at Primavera Sound this year, sharing the spotlight with fellow pop powerhouses Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX. She even popped up in the audience during Charli’s set, enthusiastically dancing along to the viral “Apple” choreography, much to the delight of fans.

Her Primavera appearance follows the release of her hit single “The Giver,” which dropped in March and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 — her second top 5 hit after “Good Luck, Babe!” last year. With her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess continuing to chart strong since its 2023 release, fans are eagerly awaiting what’s next.

And if Primavera Sound was any indication, Chappell Roan isn’t just getting the job done — she’s raising the bar for pop stars everywhere.
