Shakira Cancels WorldPride Welcome Concert in Washington, D.C. Following Fenway Park Show Cancellation

Shakira’s D.C. Pride Concert Canceled a Day After Boston Show Is Called Off

A statement from Nationals Park says “Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time” after Fenway Park “complications.”

On Friday, May 30, Shakira officially canceled her much-anticipated WorldPride Welcome Concert scheduled for Saturday night at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., just one day after her show at Boston’s Fenway Park was abruptly called off.

The announcement came through the official social media channels of Nationals Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals. According to the statement, logistical complications stemming from the canceled Boston show prevented Shakira’s full tour production from being transported to D.C. in time for the performance.

“Due to complications with the previous show in Boston, Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time for her scheduled performance at Nationals Park on Saturday, May 31,” the statement read. “As a result, the D.C. show has been canceled. Despite every effort to make it happen, it is not possible to move forward as planned.”

Ticket refunds are being automatically processed for purchases made via Ticketmaster and Nationals.com. Fans who purchased tickets through third-party resellers are advised to contact their original point of sale directly.

Initially, Nationals Park shared a message from Shakira herself, written in both English and Spanish, expressing her sorrow over the cancellation: “Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able. Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for your unconditional support.” However, that statement has since been removed from Nationals Park’s accounts and has not appeared on any of Shakira’s personal social media channels.

The cancellation followed the earlier abrupt cancellation of Shakira’s May 29 Fenway Park concert in Boston, which was called off just hours before the scheduled start “due to unforeseen circumstances,” according to the stadium’s official social media announcements. Live Nation, the concert promoter, later clarified in a statement to Billboard: “During a routine pre-show check, structural elements were identified as not being up to standard, so the shows were canceled. All team members are safe.”

While fans disappointed by the canceled Washington, D.C. show will have to wait a little longer, organizers of WorldPride D.C. confirmed that all other scheduled events will proceed as planned. The full event schedule remains available on the WorldPride website for attendees and interested parties.

Despite the setbacks, Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour is set to resume Monday, June 3, at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, where she is expected to perform without incident.

This string of cancellations marks an unexpected disruption in Shakira’s highly anticipated tour, which celebrates her latest music and continues to draw large crowds worldwide. Fans and industry observers alike are hopeful the remainder of the tour proceeds smoothly, allowing the global superstar to once again showcase her dynamic performances and connect with audiences across the globe.
