Robert Smith has revealed the poem that served as the inspiration for The Cure’s latest single, titled “Alone”

After much anticipation, The Cure have finally made their long-awaited album, Songs of a Lost World, available to the public. Additionally, they have released their brand new single, titled “Alone.” Furthermore, the band has disclosed that a poem played a significant role in the creation of the song “Alone.”

The release of the album, which will be The Cure’s first full-length release since the release of 4:13 Dream in 2008, is scheduled to take place on November 1st, 2024. Over the course of the past few weeks, the legendary British band has been disseminating a number of mysterious teasers across various social media platforms as well as in actual sites that have been significant in their musical journey.

Smith has been talking about Songs of a Lost World for a considerable amount of time now, and he has expressed himself in the past that he would like the album to be released in the year 2022. Nevertheless, their preparations to announce the project were impeded by delays; however, after ‘Alone’ was finished, everything else fell into place, and Smith had a clear vision for the record.

The Cure has made a triumphant comeback with their new album, titled “Alone,” which has a running time of about seven minutes. The single not only serves as a representation of their comeback, but it also serves as the opening track on their upcoming record, which Smith believes is the ideal approach to introduce the band to their audience.

Smith revealed the following information in a statement: “The song ‘Alone’ is the one that broke the record.” The moment we finished recording that track, I realized that it was going to be the first song on the album, and I felt the entire album come into focus. Over the course of some time, I had been having a difficult time locating the appropriate starting phrase for the appropriate opening song. I had been working with the straightforward concept of being “Alone” always in the back of my mind.

Additionally, Smith disclosed the unexpected source of inspiration that was behind the lyrics, explaining, “This nagging feeling that I already knew what the opening line should be.” After we had done recording, I recalled the poem “Dregs” written by Ernest Dowson, an English poet. It was at that very time that I realized that both the song and the album were genuine.

The first line of “Alone,” which reads, “This is the end of every song that we sing,” is taken straight from the poem “Dregs” written by Dowson. The poem was published posthumously in 1902, after the English poet had passed away in 1900 at the age of 33.

Smith is responsible for the composition and arrangement of Songs of a Lost World. He also collaborated with Paul Crockett, who had previously worked with The Cure on Bloodflowers, to co-produce and mix the album. In addition to this, Smith was the creative architect who was responsible for the concept of the sleeve art that Andy Vella brought to reality.

Definitely Maybe was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, which is also the studio where the album was recorded. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios. Smith was one of the members of The Cure that participated in the recording sessions. Other members included Simon Gallup, Roger O’Donnell, and Reeves Gabrels.

Songs of a Lost World: The Cure’s announcement of the album
A gorilla method has been taken by The Cure in order to promote the release of their new record, rather than pursuing a conventional marketing campaign for the record. Around the beginning of this month, they started the rollout of the album by sending black postcards with the title Songs of a Lost World printed on them to the people who have been the most faithful to them. Roman numerals are also used to indicate the release date, which corresponds to November 1st, 2024.

Additionally, The Cure displayed a poster in front of The Railway Inn in Crawley with their message. The very first concert that they ever performed took place at the pub, which is why it holds a significant place in their history. In addition to that, they have uploaded videos to social media that document Blackpool, the place in which Smith was born.

When The Cure just established a new website and a WhatsApp channel, they gave their fans a sneak peek at the lyrics of the song “Alone” before they made the announcement that the song will be released. Fans are required to enter the Roman numerals that are printed on the postcards in order to get a new piece of promotional artwork. Additionally, they are extended an invitation to join their community WhatsApp group, which enables them to access the lyric from the song “Alone,” which reads, “This is the end of every song that we sing… Who knows where it went?
