Miley Cyrus is in a bold new era of artistry, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down. Fresh off the release of her Something Beautiful audio album and its upcoming visual counterpart, the singer is already teasing her next chapter—an experimental 12-track project that promises to focus purely on music and emotion, with less of the pressure that’s defined much of her two-decade-long career.
The pop icon debuted the Something Beautiful visual album at New York City’s Beacon Theatre as part of the 2025 Tribeca Festival, thrilling a packed house with the cinematic take on her new 13-track project. The visual album officially drops next week, following the release of its audio version last Friday. But during an exclusive chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Miley made it clear that Something Beautiful is just the beginning.
“This is the appetizer,” Cyrus said, teasing what’s next: a more “extremely experimental” album that’s already taking shape in her mind. “I think I know what those [12 songs] at least feel like,” she explained. “It’s not necessarily about the sound first or the look—it’s about how it makes you feel.”
A New Era Without Pressure
Cyrus is deliberately stepping away from the expectations that once weighed heavily on her. “For almost the past two decades, I’ve put so much pressure on myself,” she admitted. “This next album, I hope, is something that just exists because it’s real and right in the moment. It’s about the music—not the machine.”
That mindset is already reflected in Something Beautiful, an ambitious visual album that plays more like a series of personal short films than traditional music videos. Fans were treated to a cinematic experience filled with rich storytelling, emotional performances, and stunning fashion moments—including a dramatic Thierry Mugler ensemble Miley wears in “Prelude.”
A Visual Journey Through Sound
Each track in the visual album was paired with a unique concept, from soundstage performances to nighttime Hollywood shoots. One standout moment includes “Walk of Fame,” which was filmed on the actual Hollywood sidewalk and left Cyrus with a real knee injury. Other highlights include “Easy Lover,” filmed partially outdoors on a studio lot, and “Reborn,” which features a rain-soaked Cyrus delivering a raw, emotional finale.
Model and icon Naomi Campbell even makes a striking cameo in “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved,” walking alongside Cyrus in an abandoned warehouse—a sequence that nods to George Michael’s “Freedom.” Naomi even wore Miley’s own Thierry Mugler outfit for the video. “I don’t share fashion with my friends unless they’re Naomi,” Cyrus joked.
Looking Ahead
Fans eager to see Something Beautiful on the big screen can catch it in North American theaters on June 12, with an international release following on June 27. But for Miley, her eyes are already on what comes next.
“I want to be the reference,” she said. “I completely idolize the women who came before me—Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Diana Ross—but this is my journey now. And I want to create something no one has ever done before.”
