Mariah Carey Inks Multi-Album Deal With Gamma, Reunites With L.A. Reid for Upcoming Album

Mariah Carey is officially entering a bold new chapter in her storied career. The iconic singer has signed a multi-album partnership with Gamma, the independent music company launched by former Apple Music executive Larry Jackson, setting the stage for the release of her highly anticipated 16th studio album.

The news of the deal was first revealed in an exclusive interview with Forbes, where Carey and Jackson detailed the scope of the collaboration. Notably, the new album will be executive produced by longtime collaborator L.A. Reid, who famously worked with Carey during the early 2000s when she signed to Island Def Jam. Their creative partnership yielded one of Carey’s most celebrated projects, The Emancipation of Mimi—a comeback album that earned multi-platinum status and reinvigorated her career.

Carey celebrated the new deal by performing her brand-new single “Type Dangerous” live at the BET Awards on June 9 in Los Angeles. The single, released just days earlier under the Gamma imprint, marks her first official music release in years and positions her once again on the edge of chart history. With 19 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, Carey is now just one hit away from tying The Beatles’ record of 20—an achievement that could very well be realized with this latest era.

Speaking to Forbes, Carey expressed her excitement about her new home at Gamma: “What Larry Jackson is building at Gamma is beyond music,” she said. “It’s a cultural shift, and I’m excited to be part of something that honors legacy while pushing boundaries. This next chapter is about owning my narrative and creating freely on my own terms.”

Founded in 2023, Gamma has quickly become a disruptive force in the music industry. Under Jackson’s leadership, the company has signed major acts including Usher, Snoop Dogg, and rising star Sexyy Red. Snoop even moved his iconic Death Row Records under Gamma’s umbrella for distribution—signaling just how serious the company is about giving artists control and innovation.

Mariah Carey’s move to Gamma follows her time with Sony’s Epic Records, where she released her 2018 album Caution. That project was praised for its sleek production and vocal finesse but didn’t mark the kind of commercial dominance Carey had previously enjoyed. Now, with full creative control and an executive team she trusts, the stage is set for a true return to form.

With L.A. Reid back in the producer’s chair, fans are eagerly awaiting what the duo will cook up next. Reid’s history with Carey is filled with artistic highs, and their reunion has already sparked comparisons to the energy behind Mimi—one of the defining albums of her career.

As Carey looks to cement her legacy and potentially make history on the Billboard charts, her new partnership with Gamma signals more than just a record deal—it’s a declaration of independence, vision, and longevity.
