Katy Perry Surprises Fans by Crashing ‘Club Katy’ Night in Melbourne During Australian Tour
Katy Perry continues to prove that she’s not just a pop superstar but also one of the most down-to-earth and fan-focused artists in the business. During her ongoing Australian Lifetimes Tour, Perry made a surprise appearance at a Melbourne nightclub event celebrating her music—and fans were absolutely thrilled.
The unexpected moment took place on Saturday, June 14, at Chasers Nightclub in Melbourne, following the final local show of her sold-out Melbourne run at Rod Laver Arena. That evening, the club was hosting its vibrant LGBTQIA+ Poof Doof night, which also featured a special “Club Katy” theme, with fans coming together to celebrate the iconic artist’s decades-spanning discography.
But what started as a fan-organized tribute to Katy’s music turned into something much more memorable. To the shock and delight of everyone in attendance, Perry herself showed up at the event, instantly sending the energy in the room skyrocketing. Dressed glamorously and full of gratitude, she addressed the crowd with heartfelt words.
“You guys raised me,” Perry told the audience, visibly touched. “I thank you and I love you. You are my chosen family.” She went on to prove just how much that family means to her. “Because you are my chosen family, a mother must provide for her children. So as a provider, I would like to open the bar for one hour. The drinks are on me, baby!”
Needless to say, the crowd erupted in cheers. The generous gesture and her candid presence only deepened the love between Perry and her loyal fanbase. The Melbourne surprise came just one night after a similar “Club Katy” event in Brisbane—though that one didn’t feature a special guest. Fans lucky enough to be at Chasers got a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Interestingly, Perry’s surprise appearance followed in the footsteps of fellow pop star Lorde, who recently crashed her own themed night at Mary’s Underground in Sydney. It’s a growing trend among artists to connect with their fans in unexpected, intimate ways outside of stadiums and arenas—and Katy’s fans were all the more grateful for it.
Perry’s Lifetimes Tour has been a massive success so far, with four completely sold-out shows in Melbourne and three in Sydney. Her June 9 show at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney made headlines for a different reason when a stage invader suddenly appeared during her performance. In a viral moment, the man wrapped his arm around Perry before dancing off to the side. Ever the professional, Perry played it cool, telling the audience, “There’s never going to be another show like this, so just enjoy it!”
The intruder was later identified as TikTok prankster Johnson Wen, known online as @pyjamamann. He was arrested and charged for his stunt and is now banned from the Sydney Olympic Park area for six months.
Katy Perry’s Australian tour continues on June 17 in Brisbane, with additional sold-out dates lined up in Perth and Adelaide. If the Melbourne surprise was any indication, fans across Australia have every reason to stay on their toes—because with Katy Perry, you never know when she’ll show up next.
