Brian Head Welch Discusses the Origin of Korn’s Collaboration with ‘South Park’
Korn guitarist Brian Head Welch expressed gratitude to the writers of ‘South Park’ in an Instagram post, reflecting on his experience. “I will always remember recording our lines for KoRn’s ‘South Park’ episode ‘Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery’ at a secluded studio while touring in the US in 1999,” he stated in the post’s caption. “Witnessing the creation of Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s unconventional South Park episodes is an unforgettable memory.”
“However, an even more exhilarating event transpired!” The audio we recorded remotely was unusable. What did that signify? A physical visit to the notorious South Park Studios! Welch disclosed a 28-year-old male’s dream from 1999. “All members of Korn were afforded an intimate glimpse into the methods employed by these troubled gentlemen, although it did not appear to constitute genuine ‘work.’” We spent hours laughing with Matt and Trey. Numerous individuals have inquired about that encounter throughout the years, and I am appreciative of the memories.
In a prior interview, frontman Jonathan Davis disclosed that they had to re-record the sequence because an individual in the studio ‘neglected’ to press record. “We completed the entire process, eagerly installing the camera.” Approximately four or five days subsequent to capturing the audio for the South Park scene, an individual neglected to press record, rendering our efforts futile. We had to return after completing the show. Completed the show and entered a studio that evening due to a deadline. Revised the entire project, and immediately upon completion, they transported me back to Los Angeles to proceed to their studios to collect someone.
In the episode, radio station KOZY 102.1 sponsors a ‘Halloween Haunt’ featuring Korn, which displeases Priest Maxi, who protests against Halloween and accuses Korn of satanism. Following a sequence of misfortunes, they uncover that Priest Maxi is responsible for the spectral turmoil. The episode concludes with Korn delivering a performance of ‘Falling Away from Me,’ astonishing the audience.
