An upcoming reunion tour with Mike Portnoy is about to get underway at Dream Theater
“My perspective from the office… “Rehearsals have been going absolutely fantastic in terms of both sound and feeling!” the drummer wrote. After such a long period of time, it is quite remarkable how quickly and without any difficulty we have returned to singing these songs together.(in the case of certain songs, it has been decades since they were collectively performed!)
“I don’t want to be overconfident, but I have to say that it’s already sounding and feeling so comfortable and natural,” he continued his lines of speech. Almost as if no time has passed…just more than three weeks before the start of the season!!! Not able to wait…
Alongside John Petrucci and John Myung, Portnoy was one of the founding members of Dream Theater in the year 1985. It was in 2010 when he departed the band, having played on ten of their albums beforehand. Portnoy stated that he does not have any regrets about leaving the band back then in a new interview that he gave to Mariskal Rock.
When asked about any regrets, the musician responded, “I don’t have any regrets at all.” I don’t think I have any regrets about leaving Dream Theater in 2010, since I believe that if I had stayed there dissatisfied at the time, I might have spent the rest of my life feeling regretful that I did not take a chance.
Mike continued by saying, “Therefore, it is always better to regret the things you have done than it is to regret the things you would have done.” That was always the guiding principle in my life. Even the words to the song “Repentance” by Dream Theater contain that lyrical content.
After that, he went on to say, “But that being said, I don’t have any regrets because they’re all a part of the story and they’re all a part of what got me to how I am today.” And fortunately for those who are fans of Dream Theater, it has come full circle, and overall, it has a really pleasant ending.
The European leg of Dream Theater’s 40th Anniversary Tour, which will take place between 2024 and 2025, was announced in April. They are embarking on their first tour since Portnoy returned to the band, and it is titled “An Evening With Dream Theater.” Beginning on October 20 and ending on November 24, it will go to a total of 23 cities. London will be the location of their very first concert.
