After Nicko McBrain’s resignation, Iron Maiden has announced the hiring of a new drummer
On May 27, 2025, the band will embark on its ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour, which will begin in Budapest, Hungary. its newest member will take part in the trip. Given the recent resignation of Nicko McBrain, a long-time member of Iron Maiden, the band has made the announcement that they will be hiring a new drummer. In 1982, the percussionist joined the iconic metal band, taking over for Clive Burr. Since the release of their album “Piece Of Mind” in 1983, he has contributed to each and every one of their albums. He did, however, experience a transient ischemic attack, sometimes known as a small stroke, in January of 2023. This event caused him to be partially paralyzed on his right side, beginning at the shoulder and stretching down.
McBrain has revealed that the gig that took place yesterday (December 7) in Sao Paulo was his final performance with the band. He stated that he made this decision in order to take “a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle.” The band’s world tour, which is called “The Future Past,” is drawing to a close. Currently, the heavy metal band has disclosed the most recent member to join their lineup. This individual is Simon Dawson, who is also a member of British Lion, the hard rock project that was founded by Steve Harris, the founder of Iron Maiden.
While Harris was working on his solo album, which was similarly titled “British Lion” and was released in 2012, Dawson became a member of the band for the first time. He contributed to the band’s album titled “The Burning,” which will be released in 2020, and played on three tracks that were included on that album. The ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour that Maiden will embark on in 2025 will begin in Budapest, Hungary, on May 27. He will be joining Maiden for the tour. Within the context of his initial announcement, McBrain stated, “What can I say? The trip that has been the last 42 years of touring with Maiden has been a fantastic one. My devoted fan base, you have made everything worthwhile, and I adore you with all my heart! He came to a conclusion by saying, “I look into the future with a great deal of excitement and great hope!” “May God bless each and every one of you, and of course, “Up the Irons!”.” I will be seeing you all very soon.
Rod Smallwood, the manager of Iron Maiden, issued a statement on behalf of the band, which said as follows: “Nicko, Additionally, each and every one of us adores you! I would want to express my gratitude to you for being an unstoppable force behind the drum kit for Maiden for the past 42 years and for always being my buddy. I speak for the entirety of the band when I say that we shall miss you tremendously on a daily basis!
“The band and I have a thousand wonderful memories of the past 42 years, including great gigs, a large number of platinum and gold discs and awards, overwhelming love from the fans, and on too many occasions, drinking one beer more than we should have.” Such a connection is unbreakable! Additionally, according to Steve Harris, “Nicko is and will always be a member of the Maiden family of musicians.”
Following the stroke that he suffered, McBrain participated in “intensive therapy” for a period of ten weeks in an effort to regain his full strength. Within a few months, he was able to begin rehearsals with the rest of the band in preparation for their upcoming tour, which was titled “The Future Past.” However, he did say earlier this year that there were some songs that he “cannot play” in the same manner that he had done in the past. During an interview that took place in December with Metal Hammer, he referred to the encounters as “very, very difficult.”
I thought to myself, “This is it, I’m not going to be able to play from this point forward,” when it first occurred. An upcoming tour is scheduled to take place in three months’ time. While I was in the hospital, I had a lot of time to think about things. The person who was always there for me was my wife, who was a source of support and encouragement for me throughout everything. The death of Paul Di’Anno, who had been the band’s singer from 1978 to 1981, occurred in October. He was 66 years old.
