Smokey Robinson Countersues for $500 Million After Sexual Assault Allegations Surface

Legendary Motown singer and songwriter Smokey Robinson is firing back after facing serious accusations. The 85-year-old music icon, along with his wife Frances Robinson, has filed a staggering $500 million countersuit against four anonymous women who recently accused him of sexual assault.

Filed by the couple’s attorney, Christopher Frost, the cross-complaint includes multiple allegations against the Jane Does—claiming defamation, slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress, financial elder abuse, and invasion of privacy. The Robinsons strongly deny any wrongdoing and assert that the women’s claims are not only false, but part of what they describe as an “extortionate scheme.”

According to legal documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the Robinsons allege they had shown consistent generosity to the women over the years. The suit details how the plaintiffs were allegedly provided with substantial financial support, including thousands of dollars in aid, medical assistance, clothing, and even a vehicle. In return, Robinson says the women were secretly working to damage his reputation and exploit his goodwill.

“The Robinsons did not abuse, harm, or take advantage of Plaintiffs; they treated Plaintiffs with the utmost kindness and generosity,” the lawsuit states. “Unfortunately, the depths of Plaintiffs’ avarice and greed knows no bounds.”

The countersuit was filed just weeks after the four women, all of whom worked for Robinson as housekeepers, filed their own lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and rape at multiple locations, primarily at his home in Chatsworth, California. Their claims included sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, negligence, and maintaining a hostile work environment.

Frances Robinson is also named in the original lawsuit, with the plaintiffs alleging that she failed to take necessary action to address or stop her husband’s alleged misconduct. The Robinsons, however, have categorically denied all accusations, with their attorney labeling the claims as “vile,” “false,” and part of a calculated attempt to extort money from the veteran performer.

“This is simply an ugly method of trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon — $50 million dollars, to be exact,” said Frost in a previous statement.

In their cross-complaint, the Robinsons claim that after unsuccessful pre-litigation demands of more than $100 million, the women took their case public in what the Robinsons describe as a media-driven spectacle. They accuse the plaintiffs of organizing a press conference to publicly shame them, further suggesting that this was part of an orchestrated effort to pressure a payout.

The countersuit goes further, alleging that the plaintiffs attempted to destroy or conceal digital and physical evidence. One woman is accused of stealing Frances Robinson’s phone and deleting messages, photos, and contact information. In another instance, the lawsuit claims financial records and personal items, including a hidden safe containing valuable items like gold Krugerrands, were stolen—allegedly by someone who knew their exact location. The Robinsons say they have reported these incidents to law enforcement.

In addition to the countersuit, the Robinsons are also seeking to dismiss the original lawsuit filed by the women. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed it has launched a criminal investigation into the sexual assault allegations. Authorities say the investigation is still in its early stages.

The Robinsons’ legal team has remained firm in their stance that the entire case is a malicious attempt to damage their legacy and finances. As of now, the plaintiffs’ attorney, John W. Harris, has not responded publicly to the countersuit.

This high-profile legal battle is likely to continue making headlines as both sides prepare to fight their cases in court. For now, Smokey Robinson maintains his innocence and insists that he will not allow his name to be tarnished without a vigorous legal response.
