Serj Tankian Says He Hopes One Day We Can See Eye-To-Eye, Addressing SOAD Fans’ Concerns
Serj Tankian addressed fears that SOAD will continue with a new singer. Guitar World asked the rocker if there have been discussions about a new leader. I doubt System could exist without us. I never wanted to be in that band with others because we do something unique. Occasionally, a sub may be substituted for a missed show, but this is rare, Tankian explained.
“I would only want Daron, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan in a band. What happens when we play together is unique to the four of us. No one else would have the same system,” he said. However, I didn’t want to limit others’ opportunity to make a living doing what they love. So I let them to work without me, which was always possible.”
“They may want to tour more than I do or make a record I don’t want to make. I won’t block them. I hope we can all agree and do something for fun one day. The singer concluded that releasing is unimportant. The leader discussed the band’s future in another interview before the interview. Tankian confirmed whether the band is over.
“Not yet, but we may have one in a year or two. A tour is something we’d love to undertake, the frontman told The Sun. His artistic and physical considerations led him to quit full tours. He appreciates solo shows as events and considers them worthwhile. “We’re enjoying it and each other, making it special. I doubt it. I think we’ll do something. I don’t know when,” he said.
The band has only played two US performances this year and last performed in the UK at the Download Festival seven years ago during their farewell world tour. Tankian informed his bandmates of his tour cancellation in late 2017. He noted touring’s repetitiveness and physical strain. Tankian says he’s lot healthier after back surgery.
