Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke has released a new solo track titled “Rise Again,” with proceeds supporting a charity for Indigenous women

Veteran Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke has released a provocative new track titled “Rise Again” with his solo ensemble. The song is a country-infused rock anthem that serves as the sequel to the Rickey Medlocke Band’s track “Never Run Out of Road,” released in early 2024.

The ensemble comprises Lynyrd Skynyrd pianist Peter Keys, Mark Woerpel, guitarist for the Medlocke-led band Blackfoot, and backing vocalist Stacy Michelle, who is Rickey’s spouse. Michelle has previously collaborated with Meat Loaf, Kid Rock, and Joe Walsh. Mark Westlund, the Blackfoot guitarist, also provided backing vocals for “Rise Again.”

The track is currently accessible for digital download and on streaming platforms. A press release states that the new song serves as “a call to action to rise from the ashes, shed your skin, and confront your destiny repeatedly, clinging to hope, relinquishing doubt, and persisting in the face of adversity.”

A fraction of the revenue from the sales of “Rise Again” will support the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women’s Movement. The monies will be allocated to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, which facilitates the initiative.

Concerning the Movement for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
The initiative advocates for the cessation of violence against indigenous women. It aims to highlight the elevated incidence of homicides and disappearances among Native American women and girls. The movement is also focused on the elevated incidence of sex trafficking among indigenous women and youth.

Medlocke’s Declaration Regarding His Endorsement of the Movement
Medlocke has released a statement concerning his endorsement of the proposal. “As a Native American, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Movement holds significant personal importance to me,” he stated. This issue has persisted for decades, resulting in the disappearance of Indigenous women and girls, who are often never located. It requires immediate attention.

The guitarist stated, “I am privileged to contribute to raising awareness about this issue and to support the efforts of the [National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center] and Dream Catcher Foundation in addressing this crisis and improving the lives of Native American individuals nationwide.” Medlocke pledged to persist in his support for the cause via his music and the sale of Ricky Medlocke Band products.

Regarding Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Future Concert Schedule
Lynyrd Skynyrd has no concerts planned for 2024. The sole scheduled appearance is a headline set at Summer Jam in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on June 21, 2025.
