Chris Cornell is exposed by Soundgarden’s producer, who makes the statement, “There is something very dark about him”
Michael Beinhorn, the producer of Soundgarden, recently gave an interview to Produce Like A Pro in which he expressed his admiration for Cornell’s ability to send him demos that he had exclusively produced from beginning to end. Beinhorn also mentioned that there was something “very dark” about both the album “Superunknown” and Cornell’s overall style.
When asked about the origin of the moniker “Superunknown,” he stated, “It actually came close to the end of the record.” This was one of the tracks that Chris had brought in for us to listen to. Just now, he made the statement, “That is going to be the name of the record.” Regarding that, I didn’t give it much thought. In addition to the song itself, I adored the title. The images that had been taken for the album were brought in by them as the record was coming to a close. When I finally got the chance to see them, I said to myself, “Oh my goodness, that is actually quite amazing.”
After that, the producer continued, “And then the way it sort of came together with the name, it had a vibe that I felt really encompassed the album… Some of the material that is included on the CD contains imagery that is somewhat strange in certain spots. More of a mood, or at least the same amount of a mood, is what I believe it expresses… Considering that I didn’t really pick up on any of it when we were working together, what Chris was going through emotionally is something that kind of links together in a completely different manner. However, there is something very, very dark about the music, and there is something pretty black about him as well.
There was something about the record that the band did not enjoy, despite the fact that it eventually became one of the most popular albums that the band had ever released. Ben Shepherd, the bassist for the band, admitted that he did not listen to the album after it was finished being recorded. An additional admission that he made was, “I do not like the production of that record.” It doesn’t seem very appealing to me. I do not like the way that it seems.
The phrase “make people happy” is a load of rubbish. If people appreciate it, then I am flattered and I am honored, and I am honored. From my perspective, however, once an album is over, it is finished, and it is time to move on to something new,” the bassist continued.
Bad Animals Studios in Seattle, Washington, was the location where the recording sessions for the album ‘Superunknown’ began in July 1993 and continued for nearly three months. The band came to the conclusion that the only way to entirely alter their sound was to record each track individually. It was decided to bring in Beinhorn, who is well-known for his meticulous approach to achieving the desired sound for each song, in order to assist in shaping the material.
