Alex Van Halen Releases All Of Eddie Van Halen’s Final Song, ‘Unfinished’
Alex Van Halen released the whole six-minute version of ‘Unfinished,’ his farewell song with his late brother Eddie. The instrumental track features Eddie’s 4:35 guitar solo. The song appears in Alex’s new memoir Brothers’ audiobook. The drummer narrates the audiobook.
Alex told Billboard he wants to release more Eddie Van Halen material carefully. I’m not rushing. I have to meet Ed’s standards, the drummer said. “He was meticulous and a pain, but I needed access to the right takes as we didn’t always play well. But the tape recorders were always on.”
“We didn’t go into the studio thinking, ‘Yeah, we’ll make a record from beginning to end.’ He explained that small pieces were stored until they were needed and then used to make something new.
Alex also told Rolling Stone he was considering using OpenAI to finish Eddie’s unreleased tracks. He said he wanted Robert Plant to sing on several songs, saying, “You’re gonna think I’m out of my f*cking mind. Things will happen when conditions are right.”
