Gary Rossington footage is something that Rickey Medlocke admits he is unable to look at during Lynyrd Skynyrd performances

Rickey Medlocke, a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, recently gave an interview to Jay Jay French Connection in which he discussed his ex-bandmate Gary Rossington. Gary Rossington was the recipient of a promise that I made to him when I returned to the band. ‘Gary, no matter what happens, from this day forward I will be with you in this band until the very last note in ‘Free Bird’ is played,’ I told him out loud. We pay respect to him every night on stage by performing ‘Tuesday’s Gone,’ and I wish he were here with me because it broke my heart to the very core. I wish he was here with me. I had not been able to see that movie for more than a year, and I had been missing the guy at the same time.

After that, the rocker shifted the conversation to concern Damon Johnson, who is currently serving as their guitarist. He goes by the name of Damon Johnson, and he is a fantastic guitarist who plays there every single night!” All of those distinctive leads and rhythms, as well as everything else, are played by Damon, who is an excellent guitarist. I am the one that called out Damon’s name and spoke to him about taking control of the situation. I adore Damon dude.

Following his departure from Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972, Medlocke returned to the band in 1996. As he is now one of the members who has been with the band the longest, he feels a sense of responsibility for the band’s continued existence. There has been significant debate around the decision that he and his bandmate made to continue performing as a band. Nevertheless, the rocker disclosed that they obtained Rossington’s OK to proceed with the musical endeavor.

“We [realized] that it was time to recruit someone to cover for him due to the fact that we had obligations, and we did so with the blessing of Rossington. The situation is going to become more fascinating from this point forward. The blessings of everyone, including Dale Rossington and the estates, as well as all of the people who are participating, are allowing us to proceed with our plans. They really want to hear the music for a while longer.”

Up until the day he passed away on May 5 of this year, Gary Rossington was the final founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.”
